Fact Sheet from ASTHO on 17P

ASTHO has released a fact sheet that provides information about preterm birth (PTB) rates and racial disparities in PTB in the United States, the use of 17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone caproate (17P) to prevent PTB, and the role of state and territorial health agencies in promoting access to 17P. Contents include state examples of 17P interventions in Louisiana, North Carolina, and Ohio. The fact sheet also discusses costs, quality, and other challenges related to the availability of and access to 17P.

Hospital Engagement Network

Free evidence based best practices and resources are available as part of the CMS funded Hospital Engagement Network (HEN) at www.hret-hen.org under OB Adverse Events.  MHA is leading the MA HEN with AHA’s HRET (Health Research & Educational Trust) for 22 MA hospitals.  Most of the other MA hospital are part of the HEN with other organizations, such as Premier and UHC.

Fewer Babies Born Before Full Term

"Efforts by hospitals and government officials to decrease the percentage of babies born before full term appear to be paying off in Massachusetts and nationwide, according to a new report.

 

Last year, Massachusetts hospitals performed just over 1 percent of their deliveries on average as early elective deliveries, via scheduled induced deliveries or cesarean sections for no medical reason, before 39 weeks, compared with a statewide rate of 15 percent in 2010."
